Gosling Meadows Court

After a successful first spring season, we as an organization knew that it was time to begin to our greatest project yet, a brand new basketball court in Gosling Meadows. We introduced the idea to the Portsmouth Housing Authority and our team began to brainstorm along with the youth of the neighborhood, the features that we would want in this new court.   

After collaborating with Portsmouth Housing Authority, Portsmouth Rotary, and the Community Development Block Grant of Portsmouth, we were able to get our ideas on paper based on our budget. The bidding document for contractors was sent out, and we were able to select a contractor and sign the construction contract. 

Due to the weather, construction had to pause as the ground needed to dethaw after all the cold weather and the mud and wet dirt from the spring rain needed to dry up.  

On April 17th, 2025, the ground was broken on the new court construction. The old court was excavated, flattened, gravel was spread, and finally the tar for the blacktop was laid. After many months of waiting, all of this progress was extremely exciting for the community. Once the final layer of tar was laid, we had to wait 30 days for it to dry. 

After the drying period for the tar was over, we were able to install the basketball hoops and paint the court. With the fresh new look of the court, we were able to create a safe and fun recreational area for the youth of the community. 

Once the weather became nice, we held a ribbon cutting and grand opening event for the brand new court to celebrate the projects completion and the months of hard work that went into it! We were able to bring NBA players Duncan Robinson and Dwight Davis (pictured at the bottom of the page) to the event to make it a special memories for all the youth and residents of the Gosling Meadows Neighborhood!
